Seven Lakes Route
Seven Lakes Route: Bariloche, Angostura and San Martín
Bariloche, Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes form one of Patagonia’s strongest scenic circuits. The Seven Lakes Route links forests, lakes and mountain towns, and usually works better when nights are split across two or three bases rather than treating the whole route as one long day trip.
How to split overnight stays
Bariloche offers the largest service base and works well for arrival or departure. Villa La Angostura provides a quieter middle stop, while San Martín de los Andes completes the northern end. Over five to seven nights, multiple bases reduce repetitive driving and create more time in each area.
Winter versus summer
Winter brings snow, ice and shorter daylight, while summer expands hiking, lake beaches and navigation. The road feels completely different by season, so travelers should check current conditions before each segment and avoid judging travel time by distance alone.
Accommodation for a road trip
Parking, a kitchen, heating and easy road access are practical advantages when changing bases. Families also benefit from avoiding properties with difficult luggage access. Booking ahead matters most around snow periods and peak summer demand.
