Tourism Week in Maldonado
Punta del Este during Tourism Week: what to do and where to stay
Tourism Week shows Punta del Este and Maldonado differently from peak January. Beach time remains possible when weather cooperates, but outings, food, wineries, Punta Ballena, Piriápolis and nature become more important. Dates and programs change yearly, so evergreen planning should always be paired with the latest official calendar.
What to do when it is not beach weather
The harbor, peninsula, Punta Ballena, Casapueblo, Arboretum Lussich, Piriápolis hills and food routes can fill several days without swimming. Wineries add an adult-oriented option, while parks and ECFA work well for families. The strongest plan mixes outdoor activities with at least one lower-exposure alternative.
Using Punta del Este as a base
A Punta del Este stay gives access to La Barra, José Ignacio, Punta Ballena and much of Maldonado, while Piriápolis can justify a full day. Drivers should group outings geographically instead of crossing the department repeatedly. Over three or four nights, two well-chosen day trips often beat a long checklist.
Accommodation during a high-mobility week
Even outside January, Tourism Week brings strong domestic travel and can reduce availability. Booking early is particularly useful for family houses and well-located properties. Heating, a kitchen and parking matter more in autumn, while a walkable base makes evenings and dining easier without constant driving.
